Answers to common questions about downloading, licensing, and troubleshooting BitWhittle™. Can't find what you need? Email us and we'll help directly.
Download
- Download for Windows (Windows 10/11, 64-bit)
- Download for Mac (macOS 12 or later)
BitWhittle™ is free to download, with no credit card or account required. See the pricing section on the homepage for the difference between the Free and Pro tiers.
License and purchases
Pro is a one-time purchase of $29, not a subscription. It removes the free-tier cleanup limit and covers Windows and macOS on up to about 3 devices.
Your license activates automatically after checkout — there's no account to create. Make sure the app has an internet connection the first time you open it after purchasing, since activation and updates both need one (scanning and cleanup itself work fully offline).
If you've reached your device limit, need to move your license to a new computer, or your license isn't activating, email support@bitwhittlestudio.com with your purchase receipt or order email and we'll sort it out.
For refund eligibility, see the Terms of Service.
Troubleshooting
If something isn't working as expected:
- App won't open or a security warning appears: this is common for downloaded installers on both Windows and Mac. Confirm you downloaded from the official links above, then follow your OS prompt to allow the app to run.
- A photo format or RAW file isn't detected: check it's one of the supported formats. If it's on the list and still isn't picked up, send us a diagnostics log (see below) so we can look into it.
- Scanning is slow on a large library: first scans of large libraries take longer, especially on spinning disks or with many RAW files. 8 GB of RAM or more is recommended for large libraries.
- The app doesn't reflect a change you made in Settings: try restarting the app.
For anything else, turning on diagnostics and sending us the log is usually the fastest way to get a fix. Diagnostics are opt-in, stored only on your device, and never include your photos or license key — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what's in the log. You can enable diagnostics and attach the log file to a support email, then reset or clear it anytime from the app's Settings screen.
